Winter Flowers in Johannesburg

Winter Flowers in Johannesburg

Intro – Winter Flowers in Johannesburg

This past Sunday I went to the gym and afterwards I went for a walk. It is always cold at night (some nights dipping below freezing) but most winter days are sunny with the most amazing blue skies. It never ceases to amaze me seeing flowers in bloom in mid winter. Johannesburg truly has beautiful winters…

You will find these flowers in a winter garden in South Africa: Azaleas, Camellias, African or Namaqualand Daisies, Gladiolus, Lewisia, Pansies, Petunias, Phlox, Primulas, Proteas, Roses, Snapdragons, Strelitzias and Tulips.

South Africa’s indigenous flowering succulent plants and flowering shrubs are unique often to Southern Africa, so adds to a variety of other species planted in Joburg gardens, make for unexpected displays in our winter months. Quite a number will be seen at Jeppe Girls annual Flower Show.
