Intro – Top Fit and Fun Cities to Live and Visit 2022-23
If you voted, thank you for your vote. We had a small sample so it was decided to add to the list ‘Fit and Fun Cities to Live and Visit’ all the cities that had received at least 3 votes. 30 cities received 2 votes each so… if you did not vote keep in mind that your vote could have moved 1 or more of these cities to the list (the objective of this Survey was to identify the ‘Top 20 Cities’).
‘Walkable, clean and safe streets’ was ranked at the most important parameter in a Fit and Fun City. At number two there was a tie between ‘clean air’ and ‘friendliness of the people’.
In a tie in 3rd place was ‘A city that speaks to all: a city that encourages non-discrimination w.r.t. gender, race, religion and sexual orientation’ and ‘A city that actively encourages/ gives priority to pedestrians, bikes and effective public transport’.

Amsterdam
Amsterdam The Dam on the River Amstel is the principal commercial and financial centre of the Netherlands, with The Hague being the seat of government. Berlin
Berlin, the capital city of Germany, is renowned for its exceptional range of landmarks, vibrant cultural scene and way of life that’s somehow ‘all go’ yet relaxed. In fact, the city is best known for its striking contrasts: historical buildings stand alongside modern architecture as the past and present intermingle.
Cape Town
It is easy to fall in love with Cape Town. Cape Town offers forests, beaches, gardens, mountains, oceans, grasslands, nature reserves, winelands, as well as one of the most unique floral biomes in the world – fynbos. The city keeps receiving accolades: at the 2022 World Travel Awards, the city was again named Africa’s Leading City Destination of the year, its International Airport and the Silo Hotel took Africa’s Leading Airport and Africa’s Leading Design and Leading Luxury Hotel respectively. Table Mountain has proven that fourth time’s a charm as it scooped the title of Africa’s Leading Attraction for the fourth year in a row.
Edinburgh
Edinburgh named ‘one of the world’s best places to visit’ – is due to its culture, festivals and heritage. Some interesting facts: Edinburgh Castle is built on an extinct volcano; Edinburgh was the first city in the entire world to have its own fire service; Edinburgh has 112 parks and more trees per head of population than any other city in the U.K.
Lisbon
Lisbon is a city known for pleasant year-round weather, great food, nightlife, colourful buildings, fado music and friendly locals. Lisbon is also one of the oldest cities in Western Europe, with a history of 2,500 years. Due to its excellent trading location, the Phoenicians settled in Lisbon around 1200 BC. Lisbon invites travelers looking to enjoy the outdoors to explore its beaches and parks.
London
Apart from Big Ben and Buckingham Palace, London is famous for its status as one of the world’s greatest cosmopolitan cities, with an incredible array of museums, shops and restaurants. It’s also known for its interesting history in regards to royalty, politics, arts, science and architecture. London is one of the most diverse cities on the planet and the city speaks more than 300 languages.
Paris
Paris is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Paris has a reputation for being a romantic and cultural city: gorgeous, imposing monuments s.a the Eiffel Tower; it is one of the best shopping cities in the world – Avenue des Champs-Élysées; the Arts – Opera Garnier; Museums – the Louvre; Holy Sites – Notre-Dame Cathedral… The city is also known for its high-quality gastronomy and its many cafés.
Reykjavik
Each year, the Institute for Economics and Peace publishes its Global Peace Index (GPI). It is a highly cited source of advanced metrics, measuring the status of peace and essentially safety in the world. In 2022, for the 14th year in a row, Iceland tops the list of safest countries in the world. Reykjavík is also labeled one of the cleanest cities in the world by Architectural Digest. The city’s emphasis on alternative and sustainable sources of energy is what has allowed the air quality to remain clean. Reykjavik is the northernmost capital in the world. Despite the fact that it is not as large as many other capitals, the city is thrumming with life. It has a very interesting art scene, as the many famous Icelandic bands and artists can testify. In addition, there are many superb museums and attractions one can visit.
Seattle
Seattle is famous for Starbucks and overall coffee culture, grunge music scene, the Seahawks, the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, headquarters of a lot of the tech industry (including both Amazon and Microsoft), hiking, kayaking and general outdoors lifestyle (think REI). Seattle is genuinely a beautiful city. In Seattle you will enjoy the city’s famous skyline, the jaw-dropping Olympic mountains looming in the background, swaths of healthy evergreen forests and the scenic Puget Sound.
Vancouver
With its diverse natural landscapes, fascinating history and much sought after real estate, Vancouver has grown into one of the most desired destinations in the world to visit and to live. It is ranked as the 10th cleanest city in the world, the 4th largest cruise ship terminal in the world, etc… Vancouver is known for its diverse population who enjoy unparalleled nature: magnificent mountains and ancient forests. Locals and tourists know Vancouver for its world-famous skiing, sailing, swimming, surfing, amazing hikes and walks.
