Julianne Kempka: 19 March 1937 – 21 November 2018
Mama Julie Kempka and her husband Klaus Kempka were two loyal, sincere friends I was blessed having. Thank you for all you did and meant to me and may we one day reunite in Eternity.
The featured image (above) was taken on the 13th December 2013 and it shows Mama Julie closing the front door of her home as I was about to take her to the airport for Mama to fly off to Australia to be with her sons Jörg, Robert and the Family. She was so happy… Look at the beautiful flowers Mama was so proud of… and can you see a bit of my old white Nissan bakkie on the left of the photo?
Mama was very proud of and she had a great love for her sons and grandson and for me… Whenever Mama and I would go out to lunch, Mama used to tell the nursing staff that she was going out with her adopted son (me!).
Good Lord, unreal how skinny I was. It is as though I had just arrived from Somalia. Thanks Jörg for these 2 photos. They were taken by your dad in 1973. Your poor dad dropped Mama and I at the old Pretoria Road in Woodmead which was the starting point for our 50 Km walk “adventure” to the Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria… to think that good friend Klaus would then have the trouble to pick us up in Pretoria. Mama and I had all the fun, good friend Klaus had to do all the hard work afterwards. Mama and I also walked to the Lion Park once. I cherish those days in 1973 when I came to study in Johannesburg but sadly the following year (1974) would be devastating for my family (my parents, grandparents and uncles) and for millions of people of all races in the then Portuguese overseas territories.
