Sunday Morning Hike and Walk Klipriviersberg Johannesburg – 4 April 2021: a sunny day, friendly people and a good workout.
This was the 2nd outing at Klipriviersberg in the past 4 months and only the second in the past 13 months. COVID has done a few changes. It was an awesome autumn day with blues skies and a pleasant 12 – 23C (54 – 73F). We started together and then broke up into 3 groups: 5K walking and the 11K and 15K hiking groups. For those on the 15K group – well done guys and gals you burnt a cool 1300 calories.
Calories burnt on the 15K hike: 1327.
It was great meeting friends and making new friends. A big thank you to Natasha for hosting the 5K walk; to David and Niren for hosting the 11K hike and to Sylvia for co-hosting the 15K hike with me.
Harry, who normally hosts the 5K was not able to make it – Natasha was thrown in the deep end: she was asked to host the 5K walk at very short notice and she did a magnificent job!!
Pam really has unreal energy: she bikes to the Nature Reserve and then steams ahead on the 15K hike. She and Norma were ahead of the pack and stopped a few times for the rest of us (lesser mortals) to catch-up. Ayanda and Nokuthula were not very far behind. By the way, just for the record, after the 15K hike Pam cycled back home🚴♀️.
And guess what? only 5 ladies (and yours truly) reached the beacon – the highest point in the Nature Reserve at about 1830m (6000ft) on the 15K hike. Well done to: Ayanda, Norma, Pam, Nokuthula and Sylvia. Ladies, you put the guys to shame👍👏👌.
Thank you to all the participants who attended the walk and the two hikes and again a big thank you to the hosts: David, Natasha, Niren and Sylvia. Most enjoyable🥾🚶♀️🚶♂️🌻🌞😎
