Intro
We had a large group and everyone I spoke to enjoyed the hikes (11K and 15K) and the walk. Blue skies throughout and the temperature was just fine even though it got somewhat hot towards midday. The Nature Reserve is still lush green and beautiful. Following the hike some of us went for lunch at Thaba Eco Hotel.
This was the 1st time we had a meal there since COVID… We missed the late Niren Singh (we miss his company, we miss his very keen sense of humour). We also miss Ilona who is in Germany. Ilona promises to return to her beloved Klipriviersberg in a not too distant future.
David Goodman said that the food was even fresher and tastier. Indeed so. They also prepare the best chocolate milkshake in town😋. The Kraal restaurant at Thaba Eco Hotel offers excellent cuisine. During the 2010 FIFA World Cup some of the National Teams from countries participating in the World Cup stayed at this hotel.
Thanks to all who participated. Thank you to the Hosts: David, Erik (who has been roped in to host the ‘very fast’ 15K), Fatima, Harry (best wishes Harry on your ankle op at the end of the month), Sylvia and Teslar. Thank you to Joachim, Maggie, Sylvia, Teslar, Yolanda and to me🙂 for all the great photos👍👌.
Note: once Erik returns from Germany we will have to subdivide the 15K Group into two: a ‘fast’ and a ‘very fast/ low flying’. The ‘very fast/ low flying’ for Eric, Fatima and Letu😎😁🏃♀️🏃♂️💨💨💨
Stats
So much fun. For all those we completed the 15K your burnt 1280 calories. Just over 1000 calories on the 11K. Well done everyone!

A fine gathering of images, taken along the trails, revealing the Hiking Group enthusiastically traversing the trails of this scenically rewarding Reserve, with its birds, botanicals, insects, wild herbivorous animals and ancient / historical human settlements. A spirited and enthusiastic vibe, is obvious for all to see in these fun photos •••🦋🦎🌻🦌 🦓 JAN

Our Next Walk and Hike
Join us on Sunday 5th Feb for a 5K Walk, 11K Hike or 15K Hike: a good workout, in great company and in beautiful surrounds!
Date
Sunday, 2nd April 2023
The JCP Entrance
We have been using the new JCP Entrance Precinct in the South of the Reserve for quite a while: -26.303725, 28.010931 (traveling up Peggy Vera Road, the new precinct entrance is immediately after the Klipriviersberg Recreation Centre on the right) – directions below.
What to Bring and Where We Meet
What to bring: Water (1L to 2L) and something to eat, a hat, sunblock, good shoes – and a camera to record the occasion! A degree of fitness will enable you to enjoy the hike or the walk.
This is a great workout (you will burn 1,500 calories on the 15 K hike and about 1,000 on the 11 K hike), in great company and in beautiful surrounds. You will also get a good dose of Vitamin D.
We start and end the walk and hikes at the South entrance to Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve on Peggy Vera Road (NOT the North entrance to the Nature Reserve).
As you drive up on Peggy Vera Rd the best is to look for Klipriviersberg Recreation Center (on the right). The entrance to the Nature Reserve is the next one also on the right.
Go through security and park your vehicle – should the parking area be full, you will have to park on the lawn area outside. After parking, walk towards the lappa type area. On the other side of the lappa you will see a patch of grass, a small pond and a small bridge with a big steel gate as well as toilet facilities. The meeting area is between the lappa and the pond.
Please note: We would love to have your company but… please DO NOT attend if you are with COVID or if you have had COVID in the past 7 days or have been in contact with a person with COVID in the past 7 days. Thank you very much for your understanding.

Klipriver Nature Reserve Hike
Another amazing hike. We saw wildebeest, springbok, blesbok and of course the dassies and their cute babies. Looking forward to next month’s hike 💝💝💝
Great hike

Klipriver Hikes
The hikes are amazing. It is a different experience every time we hike there. The pace is good and the snack break at the beacon is always enjoyable. Good times with good people 💝💝💝
You don’t have to dri Kliprivier, located in South of JHB is ideal to enjoy a hike or leisurely walk! A stone’s throw away as it were! 😏
I’ve been hiking with Tony for close on to 6 years and there’s never been a dull moment! I look forward to the first Sunday of every month. While the Reserve remains the same, there’s always something different. The 11km, which I usually do is at good pace.. but I will admit Tony and Dave keep a safe eye on each member of the group. My last hike, which was only a 5km (I wasn’t feeling too well) was just as good. A huge thank you to Harry for the educational walk. I’ll recommend a hike on any given Sunday! Thank You to all..
Fantastic hike
Yet another great hike at Klipriviersberg. I really enjoy getting out and meeting other like-minded folks. The hikes are interesting and lead by very knowledgeable people.
Kliprivier Hike
What a great hike with Tony as the organiser. So close to Johannesburg and yet you see wild animals and nature that you’d ordinarily need to travel really far too see
Hike at Kliprivier
Very enjoyable
Sunday Hike and Walk Klipriviersberg Johannesburg
A good workout (you burn between 1000 and 1400 calories depending whether you do the 11K or 15K hike), in the company of friendly people and in beautiful surrounds. You are in the great outdoors and yet so close to Johannesburg.
