Cycling in the Algarve | A Dream Destination

Glorious Algarve! The Algarve is one of the world’s top destinations for cyclists of all ages from beginners to seasoned professionals. If you are fortunate enough to live there or you are planning to take up residence or wish to visit the Algarve on a cycling holiday, this part of the world is blessed with over 300 days of sunshine per year, unmatched beauty, delicious food (did we mention wine?), accommodation to suit all pockets and friendly people. The Algarve like the rest of Portugal is quite safe to cycle. A dream destination to enjoy in any season.

The Algarve does not have cycle lanes that can compete with those in Valencia nor with bike lanes in cities and towns throughout the Netherlands – what the Algarve offers is breathtaking cycling and walking trails along its pristine coastline and countryside. Besides cycling and walking trails, the Algarve offers activities to suit residents and visitors alike, some of the top golf courses in Europe, water sports and theme parks.

Cycling in the Algarve

And whilst you are enjoying your cycling what about a round of golf? Portugal is one of Europe’s most popular golfing destinations. The country’s warm, sunny Algarve region alone counts for more than 40 golf courses, many of them world-famous championship layouts.

Do you follow a healthy Mediterranean diet? The Algarve wine region provides a wonderful gastronomic experience for all who visit and live there. Because of its location along the coast, fresh seafood is present on every menu. The freshest of seafood is usually accompanied by fruits and vegetables perfectly ripened by the sun. In summary… take a trip to the Algarve for unparalleled good time.

Maurice Bardot

The Parisian who loves the Algarve.

I love cycling around Tavira for one main reason: You are very quick out of the city, cycling in the middle of the salines using the dirt bicycle tracks with almost nobody there but the birds and flamingos and at the end, just before cycling back, you have a beautiful view of the ocean and the river mouth (Rio Gilão). A little further from the ocean, there are many small roads and dirt bicycle tracks where you quickly find yourself surrounded by nature.

Please look at the pictures taken during one of my recent cycling sessions.

The Algarve is Paradise on Earth!

Ciclismo no Algarve – Do Mar à Serra:

Cycling in the Algarve – From the Sea to the Mountain:

Cycling in the Algarve is a sport of excellence in a privileged destination. By the sea or in the mountains we can practice cycling, we have roads along the beaches with a stunning landscape or we can go further inland and even climb the highest mountain in the Algarve, Monchique and its peak, the top of Fóia.

From the sea to the mountains in the Algarve, cycling is practiced with a mild temperature and a quality environment all year round. Whether for amateur cyclists or for cyclists of a higher level, fun is guaranteed.
