November is National Hiking Month – have you done any hiking yet?ππ₯Ύ
Featured

Intro
The 17th of November was ‘National Hiking Day’ also known as ‘Take A Hike Day’. Since the 17th Nov was a Thursday we organised a hike for the 19th a Saturday as we would be off-duty. We were going to have two hiking groups viz. 11K and the 15K but Ella (the host for the 11k) went on strike… just kidding… Ella suffered an ankle injury whilst playing at a netball tournament the previous day and therefore was not able to make it. Have a speedy recovery Ella.
Following the good rains the Nature Reserve continues beautifully green. We were again very fortunate being able to see much game: blesbok, springbok, wildebeest and zebra.
A big thank you to the Hosts: David and Fatima. We were very fortunate to have Werner hiking with us who also brought his friend Bernt, both keen photographers. Thank you to Bernt, Tony and Werner for the photos and a big thank you to Taylor and to all who participated.

Our Next Walk and Hike
Join us on Sunday 4th Dec for a 5K Walk, 11K Hike or 15K Hike: a good workout, in great company and in beautiful surrounds
Date
Sunday, 4th December 2022
The JCP Entrance
We have been using the new JCP Entrance Precinct in the South of the Reserve for quite a while: -26.303725, 28.010931 (traveling up Peggy Vera Road, the new precinct entrance is immediately after the Klipriviersberg Recreation Centre on the right) – directions below.
What to Bring and Where We Meet
What to bring: Water (1L to 2L) and something to eat, a hat, sunblock, good shoes – and a camera to record the occasion! A degree of fitness will enable you to enjoy the hike or the walk.
This is a great workout (you will burn 1,500 calories on the 15 K hike and about 1,000 on the 11 K hike), in great company and in beautiful surrounds. You will also get a good dose of Vitamin D.
We start and end the walk and hikes at the South entrance to Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve on Peggy Vera Road (NOT the North entrance to the Nature Reserve).
As you drive up on Peggy Vera Rd the best is to look for Klipriviersberg Recreation Center (on the right). The entrance to the Nature Reserve is the next one also on the right.
Go through security and park your vehicle – should the parking area be full, you will have to park on the lawn area outside. After parking, walk towards the lappa type area. On the other side of the lappa you will see a patch of grass, a small pond and a small bridge with a big steel gate as well as toilet facilities. The meeting area is between the lappa and the pond.
Please note: We would love to have your company but⦠please DO NOT attend if you are with COVID or if you have had COVID in the past 7 days or have been in contact with a person with COVID in the past 7 days. Thank you very much for your understanding.

Great hike, great people
It was my first time joining this hike. The host (Tony) was very welcoming and the group that did the 15km was friendly. The trail itself is clearly marked and a very good workout.
Canβt wait for the next first Sunday of the month!
Oh what a hike.
Sylvia and Shivesh were very fit before they got injured. Hiking with them, together with Tony was an awesome experience. π³π€ΈπΎββοΈππ»ββοΈ

Thank you for organising this amazing experience for us
Everything fell into place perfectly on Sunday. It dinβt rain throughout the hike, while a cool breeze blew, cooling us beautifully as we made our way through the nature reserve.
It was a pleasant surprise to see how the landscape has changed from the brown and barren winter look to beautiful, green and lush vegetation.
One can feel the rejuvination and healing because of being in such natural surroundings.
I also enjoyed the company of people who took part in the hike.
I thoroughly enjoyed this hike. Thank you Tony, David and Jason for organising and hosting yet another awesome hike.πβ¨οΈ

Thank you so much for your comment Teslar and for the 5 Star rating. Yes, remarkable how good rain at the right time turns a brownish Nature Reserve into a fresh and lush green Nature Reserve. Klipriviersberg can be enjoyed throughout the year: each season has its beauty. Thanks for being one of the Organisers and thank you for contributing to the success of our hikes at Klippiesπππ₯Ύπ

Hiking celebrates life
Hiking becomes a way of life, putting one foot after the next a motto to traverse lifeβs obstacles. I enjoy the care and sense of inclusion Tony and Jason provide to all participants. My brother and I joined the 15 km group, as I love the red trail, but due to work obligations, we left earlier, completing just under 8km. As always, Kliprivier provides options for all levels of fitness with beautiful scenery. Meeting a variety of people makes the journey more interesting. Thank you for the photos π

To put one foot in front of the other, that is what one does on a hike and that indeed is how life is. Thank you so much for your kind words Elzette and please do join us whenever you can. Keep up the good work!
Experiential hike π
Such a lovely way to spend a Sunday morning. Completed a 15km hike with Tony, Dave and Sylvia. What makes a great hike besides the beautiful scenery, are great hiking hosts. Tony and team are so warm and welcoming and very inclusive throughout the hike, thank you for the hospitality! Lovely hike, lovely people!

Klipriver Hikes
The hikes are amazing. It is a different experience every time we hike there. The pace is good and the snack break at the beacon is always enjoyable. Good times with good people πππ
You don’t have to dri Kliprivier, located in South of JHB is ideal to enjoy a hike or leisurely walk! A stone’s throw away as it were! π
Iβve been hiking with Tony for close on to 6 years and thereβs never been a dull moment! I look forward to the first Sunday of every month. While the Reserve remains the same, thereβs always something different. The 11km, which I usually do is at good pace.. but I will admit Tony and Dave keep a safe eye on each member of the group. My last hike, which was only a 5km (I wasnβt feeling too well) was just as good. A huge thank you to Harry for the educational walk. Iβll recommend a hike on any given Sunday! Thank You to all..
Fantastic hike
Yet another great hike at Klipriviersberg. I really enjoy getting out and meeting other like-minded folks. The hikes are interesting and lead by very knowledgeable people.
Kliprivier Hike
What a great hike with Tony as the organiser. So close to Johannesburg and yet you see wild animals and nature that youβd ordinarily need to travel really far too see
Another great hike. Awesome pics, looks like you guys had an awesome awesome experience at the nature reserve once again. π³πͺ΄πΏππΌ
You are entirely correct Teslar. It was an absolutely awesome hike – only you were missing. See you at Klipriviersberg in 2 weeks’ time
